Wayfinding for Today's Smart Cities

California cities are beginning to implement Smart technologies to manage resources and accommodate growth. Many initiatives are underway to reduce traffic congestion and resulting greenhouse gases. This new push presents some public education and safety challenges.

Appropriate signage and graphics can ease the transition from an automobile-dominant mode of travel to safer, multi-modal, pedestrian and cyclist-friendly, shared streets. Graphic Solutions utilizes sign height, colors, shapes and type fonts to accommodate commuter accessibility and to differentiate neighborhoods, while incorporating unifying design elements for citywide branding.

We can also create digital signage solutions, which are effective for flexible, public spaces that are designed to accommodate a variety of special events and uses. These can also be used in parking areas to efficiently direct traffic during peak hours. It reduces confusion and is perceived as efficient and convenient.

Iconic 3rd Avenue Archway

Iconic 3rd Avenue Archway

The Third Avenue Business District in Chula Vista has undergone a renaissance over the past decade through carefully designed enhancements to celebrate its history and create a sense of place that appeals to residents and visitors alike. The improvements are welcomed by local businesses and restaurants as they begin to reopen.

Traffic calming measures encourage motorists to slow down while allowing pedestrians and bicyclists safe access to the district’s attractions and amenities. These include efficient and decorative lighting treatments and drought-tolerant landscaping.

Graphic Solutions was enlisted to create a sign program that highlights this special area, making it a favorite destination to shop and dine. See what Mayor Mary Casillas-Salas says about the program in the video below.
