Located in the heart of San Diego’s historic Balboa Park, The Old Globe’s expansion introduced new theatre spaces, an Elizabethan-inspired pub, and a redesigned plaza—creating an opportunity for a comprehensive interior and exterior sign program.
Graphic Solutions worked alongside architects, landscape architects, and interior designers to integrate wayfinding, venue identification, and donor recognition into the theatre’s historically inspired environment. Major donors are recognized through monumentation and 23K gold lettering, while a procession of bannered light standards leads visitors from Balboa Park’s main pathways into the plaza. Cast-bronze Old Globe emblems and donor names are incorporated directly into the paving, extending the recognition program throughout the public space.
The result is a cohesive signage and donor recognition system that complements the character of The Old Globe while contributing to a memorable destination by day and night.
“Simon and his team were consummate professionals. They took every change in stride, accommodated the organizations’ needs, adjusted to shifting and shortening deadlines, offered elegant and creative solutions, worked with architects to create signage that integrated well into the facility and provided a product that met the ultimate specifications of the Globe and our architects.” - Project Manager
