Point Loma Lights Up San Diego

For years, the historic coastal community, one of San Diego's older neighborhoods, has deserved a welcoming marker that reflects its heritage and pride.

Finally, on Tuesday, March 10th, 2026, local leaders, alongside the Point Loma Association and members of the project team, joined together to celebrate the unveiling of a long-awaited gateway to the peninsula: Point Loma’s newest landmark entrance sign. Thanks to generous donations and a three-year effort, the vision has finally become a reality!

Installed in a median at a busy intersection, the new illuminated sign now officially welcomes residents and visitors to the Point Loma Peninsula.

The design captures the spirit and history of the area. The Old Point Loma Lighthouse inspired the light atop the sign, echoing the distinctive streetlamps found in the district. The cursive lettering is based on a resident’s own handwriting, suggesting the ocean’s flowing waves, and the Art Deco-influenced arms supporting the letters reference a nearby historic theater marquee. All around, the design evokes the charm of the early 1900s while celebrating the peninsula today.

Graphic Solutions led the design team, which included Rick (civil engineering), YJ (structural engineering), and Randall Lamb (electrical engineering). Integrated Signs fabricated the sign, and Hazard Construction served as the general contractor. A real team effort, guided by the Point Loma Association - a testament to what a community can achieve when it comes together to celebrate the place it calls home!
